Helen grew up in Lincolnshire. As a youngster, she spent many hours observing her father at the evening newspaper where he worked for 48 years as a journalist. In fact some of Helen's earliest memories are of her dad reading copy backwards on the stone checking stories before each page went to print, and the smell of the ink on the giant reels of paper whirring through the presses.
She left school just before her 18th birthday and took a job on a weekly newspaper as a junior reporter, covering inquests, court cases, police calls, and of course, many Golden Weddings!
But it wasn't long before Fleet Street beckoned, and Helen joined a national news agency and wrote for the tabloids and broadsheets.
Her TV career began when she was one of the first journalists to be recruited by SKY Television at the end of the eighties. She was a home news editor when the channel launched in 1989, and took on many roles in her nine years there, including reporter and presenter.
Showbiz Correspondent for GMTV Following an exclusive interview with Paul McCartney just after Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer, and a separate half hour special with Yoko Ono, Helen was poached by GMTV in 1997 when they created the role of UK based showbiz correspondent for her.
Eventually she became their US correspondent based in New York. She provided live coverage of many world events for GMTV, including the terrorist attacks on the twin towers on September 11th.
Her adventurous spirit has never been far from the surface, and America afforded Helen the opportunity to travel and meet some extraordinary people when she wasn't covering breaking news. She travelled through 30 states meeting great characters like rattle snake handlers in Santa Fe and the ancient Havasupai Indians of the Grand Canyon.
She also covered the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the Oscars in LA, and the Bush/Gore election.
Flying with the Red Arrows During her time at the BBC, she got a rare chance to fly with the Red Arrows - and is still proud to be one of the few civilians to do it and not be sick!
Helen is currently a regular face at Five News, and fronts rolling news for SKY.
She is married to American TV producer Carl, and they have a three year old daughter.
